Two men were banned from the roads after they admitted drinking and driving in separate incidents.

Makeem Waldron, 28, was arrested after his car crashed into a wall and fence near the junction of North Shore Road and Dock Hill, Devonshire, on June 16.

When police arrived on the scene, Waldron told them: “My granny was driving. She left in a taxi.”

Waldron admitted that he had drunk alcohol at the National Heroes Weekend Raft-up, and was arrested on suspicion of driving while impaired.

In the police car, he said that his friend was driving the car.

He said: “He doesn’t like to deal with the police and has warrants so he left.”

Waldron agreed to give a breath sample, which showed he had 217 milligrams of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood — more than triple the legal limit.

In Magistrates’ Court, he admitted driving with while over the blood alcohol limit.

Barry Walkes, 30, meanwhile pleaded guilty to driving while impaired in an incident on March 23.

The court heard that at around 11.45pm, police responded to a report of a single vehicle collision near the junction of Middle Road and Church Road in Southampton.

When they arrived, officers saw Walkes sat on his motorcycle with an injury above his eye.

Walkes said: “I was riding home and I don’t know what happened.”

Officers said Walkes was unsteady on his feet and struggled to put the motorcycle on its stand.

A blood test later revealed he had 175 milligrams of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood.

Magistrate Tyrone Chin fined both Waldron and Walkes $1,200 and banned them from the road for 18 months.
