A Hamilton Parish man has been banned from the roads for 18 months after pleading guilty to drink-driving.
Charles Hartman, 64, pleaded guilty in Magistrates’ Court yesterday to providing a breath sample above the legal limit.
Hartman was arrested after the car he was driving collided with another vehicle on Middle Road, near Brighton Hill Road, at about 10pm on December 8.
Court heard that Hartman was unsteady on his feet, that his eyes were glazed and that his breath smelled of liquor when police arrived on scene.
Asked if he had been drinking Hartman replied: “Yes, I have been drinking.”
He provided two breath samples to police. The lower of the two samples showed that he had 198 milligrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood — the legal limit is 80mg.
Senior magistrate Juan Wolffe fined Hartman $1,200 for the offence and disqualified him from operating any vehicles for 18 months.
