A woman who admitted driving home from a Christmas party under the influence was banned from the roads and fined yesterday.
Janae Armstrong, 41, from Warwick, pleaded guilty to the offence at Magistrates Court.
The court heard that police followed Armstrong through Par-la-Ville Road in Hamilton after she was seen driving in an erratic manner on December 8.
Armstrong swerved into the opposing lane on Front Street and officers stopped her near Burnaby Street.
Police informed her of their observations and arrested her on suspicion of drink-driving.
Armstrong told police: I do not understand, I was at a union Christmas party.
She was taken to Hamilton Police Station and ordered to take a breath test, but refused.
She attended Magistrates Court the next day and pleaded not guilty to drink-driving, but switched her plea to guilty yesterday.
Magistrate Maxanne Anderson fined Armstrong $1,000 and ordered her to pay by September 14. She also banned her from the roads for 18 months.
