Two women were taken to hospital after they were in a three-car crash, police said today.

The incident happened on Middle Road, in Southampton, near the junction with Avocado Lane.

A police spokesman said it appeared that a 57-year-old Warwick woman was travelling west when she “overtook another vehicle approaching a bend and collided with the second car being driven in the opposite direction in the vicinity of Jews Bay”.

He explained that a third car heading east on Middle Road crashed into the back of the second vehicle.

The spokesman said: “The driver of the first car was hurt, as well as the driver of the second car, said to be a 66-year-old Sandys parish woman.

“Both were transported to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital for treatment of their injuries, which were described as non-life threatening.

“Apparently the driver of the third car, said to be a 27-year-old Southampton woman, and her passenger were not hurt.

“However, all three vehicles involved and a roadside wall were damaged.”

The crash happened about 7.55am on Monday.

Police have appealed for witnesses.
