The Premier offered condolences last night to the family of a 27-year-old man who was killed on Sunday in a jet ski incident.

David Burt said: “It is certainly tragic to lose a life so young.”

He added: “But it’s a reminder to all of us that we must make sure that we are taking extra precautions when we are out on the water, as it can be dangerous.”

Mr Burt was speaking after the victim was identified by police as Lavonte Williams.

Mr Williams was thrown from the vehicle on the Great Sound at about 7pm on Sunday.

A boat carried him to shore at Jews Bay in Southampton to a waiting ambulance.

Mr Williams was rushed to the King Edward VII Memorial Hospital, but he was pronounced dead on arrival by doctors.
