A teenager was arrested after a high-speed chase that resulted in a police car hitting a barrier.

Police officers saw a motorcyclist commit a traffic offence near the junction of Church Street and King Street on Wednesday, shortly after 8am.

A police spokesman said: “The motorcyclist, said to be a 19-year-old Sandys man, was signalled to stop along Trimingham Road in Paget, but apparently he failed to do so.

“A pursuit ensued along South Road, Middle Road and Ord Road in Paget, ending along the Railway Trail where the teen was apprehended after a brief foot chase.”

The police car involved in the pursuit was damaged after striking a metal barrier on the Railway Trail but neither of the officers in the car were hurt.

The spokesman said the teenager, Kyshon Burgess, had received tickets for offences related to the chase and appeared in Magistrates’ Court yesterday afternoon for several outstanding warrants.

He was later taken to Westgate Correctional Facility.
