A man who arrived in Bermuda only three months ago has been banned from the roads for 18 months for drink-driving.

Bidur Bhattari, 31, was spotted by police driving erratically on Front Street in the early hours of the morning, Magistrates’ Court heard yesterday.

Officers noticed Bhattari’s motorcycle was swerving and that he was constantly checking behind him.

They arrested Bhattari on suspicion of drink-driving and took him to Hamilton Police Station for a breath test.

He was found to have 140 milligrams of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood. The legal limit is 80mg/100ml.

The incident happened at about 1am on May 5.

Bhattari, from Devonshire, pleaded guilty to driving while impaired.

Magistrate Maxanne Anderson fined him $1,500 in addition to the driving ban.
