Police confirmed the death this evening of Howard Charles, 69, after he was seriously injured at about 3.20pm in a crash involving a carriage that he was driving.

Mr Charles was rushed to the King Edward VII Memorial Hospital but succumbed to his injuries, while the two horses that were pulling the vehicle had to be put down by a veterinarian.

Police said no other vehicles were involved.

The incident happened on Brighton Hill Road in Devonshire near its junction with Middle Road. As of 7pm, traffic diversions were no longer in effect.

The incident marls the first road death in Bermuda in 2018.
