A man was fined $1,000 after he pleaded guilty to careless driving.

William Smith also admitted driving while disqualified.

The court heard that a police car was forced to brake after a van failed to stop at the roundabout at Parsons Road and Frog Lane in Devonshire.

The van was pulled over on Frog Lane. The incident happened on May 4.

Officers found that Smith, 25, from Warwick, had a licence only for auxiliary cycles and that he had been banned from the roads until May 17.

The court heard he told officers: “I didn’t know.”

Magistrate Juan Wolffe also put ten demerit points on Smith’s licence.
