Ten people were arrested on suspicion of impaired driving between last Friday night and New Year’s Day, police revealed yesterday.

A police spokesman said “more than half” of the road users arrested were caught at roadside breath test checkpoints.

He added: “The main objectives of the road sobriety checkpoints are to help make the roads safer and ultimately save lives.

“While there are no road sobriety checkpoints scheduled for this coming weekend, members of the public are urged not to drive or ride under the influence, as police officers conducting their regular patrols will be on the lookout for any offences, including impaired driving.”
