A 28-year-old motorcyclist was fined and banned from the roads for 18 months after he admitted speeding and dangerous driving yesterday.

Magistrates’ Court heard that Jiquon Belboda’s bike was clocked by police at 87km/h, more than 2½ times the speed limit on Devonshire Bay Road.

Magistrate Khamisi Tokunbo heard that Belboda, from St George’s, was chased by police at high speed before he was pulled over.

The court heard he told officers when stopped: “I’m going off the road for this.”

Belboda said in court he was not aware that he was being chased and that he was speeding because he was late for work.

He asked Mr Tokunbo not to ban him from driving because he needed his licence for his job.

Mr Tokunbo imposed an 18-month ban and fined Belboda $1,500.
