Seven motorists were arrested for impaired driving during roadside sobriety checks over the weekend.

The tests took place from Friday night until early yesterday morning in Hamilton Parish, Devonshire, Pembroke, Paget and Southampton.

A Bermuda Police Service spokesman said: “The main objectives of the road sobriety checkpoints, usually conducted by Roads Policing Unit officers, are to help make the roads safer and ultimately save lives.

“While there are no road sobriety checkpoints scheduled for this coming weekend, members of the public are urged not to drive or ride under the influence as police officers conducting their regular patrols will be on the lookout for any offences, including impaired driving.”
