A 23-year-old man was banned from the roads for 18 months this morning after admitting drink driving.

Kwasi James, of Sandys, pleaded guilty to driving while over the legal limit in Magistrates’ Court.

The court heard that police attended a motorcycle crash on Somerset Road, near Bay Lane, at about 3am on February 10.

James was transported to hospital where police noticed his eyes were bloodshot, his speech was slurred, and his breath smelled of alcohol.

When asked if he had been drinking he responded: “Yes, Chivas.”

A later breath test showed 197 milligrams of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood. The legal limit is 80/100.

Senior magistrate Juan Wolffe also fined James $1,200 for the offence.
