A Southampton man who crashed his car into a wall and failed a breath test has been banned from the road.

Kyle McNeil, 25, admitted driving while impaired by alcohol in an appearance in Magistrates’ Court yesterday.

The court heard that on the evening of June 16, police received a report of a single vehicle collision on North Shore Road in Devonshire.

When officers arrived, they saw an extensively damaged car in a private yard.

They were told that the driver had gotten out of the car and left the area.

Police found McNeil at his home later that evening and he admitted being the driver of the car.

He also admitted that he had drunk alcohol earlier that day.

McNeil provided police with breath samples which revealed he had 221 milligrams of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood — almost three times the legal limit.

Magistrate Khamisi Tokunbo fined McNeil $1,200 and banned him from driving all vehicles for 18 months.
