Man, 21, killed in crash with police car

A 21-year-old Sandys man was killed in a crash with a police vehicle in the West End early this morning.

The incident happened on Main Road, Somerset, near Willowbank Resort and Conference Centre, at about 1.55am.

A Bermuda Police Service spokesman said that a female police officer in a marked police car was responding to a call for assistance when her vehicle collided with a man on a motorcycle travelling in the opposite direction.

The rider was taken to the King Edward VII Memorial Hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

The spokesman said that no further information would be provided until next of kin had been notified.

The scene has been cordoned off and is being processed by the relevant police officers.

A full investigation into this road fatality, the fourth of 2019, has commenced under the leadership of Sergeant Dorian Astwood, of the Roads Policing Unit. Witnesses can contact him on 247-1009 or 717-0849.
