A Warwick man was banned from driving for 18 months and fined $1,500 yesterday for driving while impaired.

Tiko Hassell, 41, admitted the offence in Magistrates’ Court. The court heard how, on November 4, Hassell was driving his car west at high speed along South Road, Paget, near College Road.

Police pulled him over and observed that he smelled of alcohol, had red eyes and slurred vision, and was unsteady on his feet.

He was arrested and taken to Hamilton Police Station for a breath analysis where he told officers: “I know I’m going to fail.”

The breathanalyser test confirmed he was over the legal limit with 263 milligrams of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood. The legal limit is 80mg.
