A driver was banned from the roads for 18 months and fined after he admitted crashing his car after he had been drinking.

Jamari Samuels, who refused a breath test after his car was involved in a collision with a motorbike, admitted a drink-driving charge at Magistrates’ Court yesterday.

The court heard that police were called to a two-vehicle collision on Glebe Road in Pembroke between a car and a motorcycle.

Officers asked Samuels if he had been drinking.

Samuels, 33, from Pembroke, said: “Yes, but that was some time ago.”

He was taken to Hamilton Police Station, but refused to take a breath test.

The incident happened on June 30. Senior magistrate Juan Wolffe fined Samuels $1,500 in addition to the ban.
