A driver who crashed a car into a wall left the scene before police arrived, it was revealed yesterday.

Officers found the vehicle, which had gone over an embankment on Verdmont Road in Smith’s, near soft drinks firm John Barritt & Son on Monday at about 11pm.

Police said it was not known if the driver had been injured and that they were trying to track them down.

The damaged car was later towed away.

In another incident, a police spokesman added that an 87-year-old man hurt in a crash on Mullet Bay Road, St George’s, on Monday afternoon, was in “stable” condition on a general ward at King Edward VII Memorial Hospital.

Police appealed for witnesses to both incidents.
