A man who racked up more than $3,000 in fines, after he pleaded guilty yesterday to possession of drug equipment and a string of traffic offences, was given until October to pay.

But magistrate Khamisi Tokunbo also ordered David Eatherley, 35, to pay an overdue $430 speeding fine by the end of the day.

The court heard that Eatherley was pulled over by police at a traffic stop at Blackwatch Pass, Pembroke, on December 30 last year.

Police saw Eatherley, who was a passenger in the car, acting in a suspicious way and asked him to get out. A drug-sniffing dog was called in and identified the presence of drugs on Eatherley.

He was arrested and taken to Hamilton Police Station, where a home-made pipe was found on him after a search.

An analysis of the pipe found trace amounts of cocaine.

Eatherley was arrested again in the early hours in March after he failed to fulfil conditions of police bail for the offences and attend Hamilton Police Station.

He was held in custody overnight and taken to Magistrates’ Court, where admitted possession of drug equipment.

Eatherley also admitted riding an unlicensed and uninsured motorcycle on February 4 while he was banned from the roads.

Mr Tokunbo fined him a total of $3,250 for the offences and ordered him to pay them by October 5.
