A 32-year-old man was banned from the road for a year and fined after he refused to give police a blood sample.

Magistrates’ Court heard that Jason McGuinness refused to supply a specimen of blood when he was being treated in hospital for injuries after his bike crashed.

McGuinness, of Warwick, crashed his bike on Berry Hill Road in Paget on June 28.

Police who attended the scene noticed his eyes were glazed, his breath smelled of alcohol and his speech was slurred.

He told police when questioned: “I had one drink.”

McGuinness refused to give a blood sample at the King Edward VII Memorial Hospital.

In addition to the ban, he was fined $800.
